Welcome! We are excited to share information about the cutting-edge Fotona laser treatments we offer. This FAQ is designed to answer common questions our patients have about these procedures.

About the Fotona Laser System Basics
What is the Fotona laser system?
Fotona is a leading global company specializing in the development and manufacture of high-performance laser systems. Their devices utilize advanced laser technology to deliver precise and effective treatments across various medical and aesthetic applications.
What makes the Fotona laser different from other lasers?
Fotona lasers are unique because of their dual-wavelength system (Nd:YAG and Er:YAG), which allows for highly customizable treatments for a wide range of skin conditions and concerns. This versatility means treatments can be tailored to be either non-ablative (gentle, no downtime) or ablative (more intensive, with downtime).
Is the Fotona laser system suitable for all skin types?
Fotona laser treatments can be suitable for a variety of skin types, including those with lighter and darker skin tones. The technology is versatile and can be adjusted to meet the individual needs of different skin types, potentially reducing the risk of side effects.

Before, During, and After Treatment Prep & recovery
How should I prepare for my Fotona laser treatment?
Specific preparation instructions vary based on the type of treatment you receive. Generally, you should:
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks prior.
  • Discontinue use of retinoids or harsh exfoliants as directed by your provider.
  • Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup or lotion.
We will give you a detailed list of pre-treatment instructions during your free consultation.
Is the treatment painful?
Most Fotona treatments are very well tolerated. Many patients describe the sensation as a warm or prickly feeling. The intensity depends on the specific procedure. For more intensive treatments, a topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure maximum comfort.
How long does a typical Fotona session take?
Treatment times vary greatly depending on the area being treated and the type of procedure. A Fotona4D® treatment usually takes around 45–60 minutes, while smaller areas may take less than 30 minutes.
What is the recovery time?
Recovery time (downtime) is highly dependent on the treatment.
  • Non-ablative treatments (like NightLase®, some skin tightening, and lighter peels) typically have no downtime. You can return to your daily activities immediately.
  • Ablative treatments (more intensive resurfacing) may involve several days of redness, swelling, and peeling.
We will discuss expected downtime and post-care with you thoroughly during your free consultation.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of required sessions depends on the condition being treated, the severity of the condition, and your desired results. Many patients see visible results after a single session, but a series of 3–5 treatments, spaced a few weeks apart, is often recommended for optimal and long-lasting results.
Safety and Results What to expect
Is Fotona laser treatment safe?
Yes. Fotona laser systems are known for their precision and safety. The treatments are performed by trained professionals who customize the settings for your specific skin type and needs, minimizing risks and maximizing effectiveness.
When will I see results?
Many patients notice an immediate improvement in skin texture and tone. However, the most significant results from treatments focused on collagen remodeling (like skin tightening) typically appear gradually over 2–3 months as your body naturally produces new collagen.
